Meet Drs. Hunt
Donald W. Hunt, Jr., DMD, MSD
Dr. Hunt, Jr. knows first hand what it feels like to have orthodontic treatment. Before graduating Christ Church Episcopal School in his hometown of Greenville, SC, he was an orthodontic patient of his father's, Dr. Hunt, Sr. Dr. Hunt, Jr. graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1993 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology with Honors. Dr. Hunt, Jr. then attended the Medical University of South Carolina where he received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 1998 and graduated with Honors. To pursue his love of orthodontics, Dr. Hunt, Jr. received both his Master of Science in Dentistry and Certificate of Specialty in Orthodontics in 2001 from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Hunt, Jr.'s master's thesis research at CWRU was accepted in 2004 for publication in the world's pre-eminent orthodontic research journal, The American-Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, for original research in craniofacial growth and three-dimensional radiography (x-rays)
Dr. Hunt, Jr. holds active memberships in the American Association of Orthodontists, Southern Association of Orthodontists, South Carolina Association of Orthodontists, South Carolina Dental Association, Piedmont Dental Society and the Greenville County Dental Society. Dr. Hunt, Jr. is past president of the South Carolina Association of Orthodontists (2008-2009).
In May 2008, Dr. Hunt, Jr. was certified in the Wilckodontics or the Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics procedure. Dr. Hunt, Jr. is the first orthodontist in the upstate of SC and the Greenville area to be trained and licensed to provide this exciting treatment for his patients.
Dr. Hunt, Jr. enjoys attending continuing education courses to bring our patients the most up-to-date advances in orthodontic treatment and technology. Dr. Hunt, Jr. also enjoys working with nationally known dental lecturers providing orthodontics for their patients overall dental treatment plans. Dr. Hunt's orthodontic results have been presented by these dentists at local, regional, national and international dental meetings.
When Dr. Hunt, Jr. is not furthering his orthodontic knowledge and taking care of your orthodontic treatment, he enjoys playing the guitar with his Honky Tonk band "The Note Ropers", golf, and restoring classic automobiles. Dr. Hunt, Jr. and his wife, Vicky, live in Greenville with their daughter , Ryan, and son, Donald III.
Donald W. Hunt, DDS (January 11, 1940 - October 31, 2010)
Dr. Hunt was born January 11, 1940 at home in Gaffney, SC. He grew up from humble beginnings on a working cotton farm. Don graduated from Gaffney High School in 1958, where he played football on the championship teams of 1955, 1956, and 1957. Dr. Hunt was elected to the 1957 Charity Rose Bowl, now known as the Shrine Bowl. He attended Presbyterian College in 1958 on a football scholarship. From 1959 to 1960, Dr. Hunt worked for Daniel Construction Co. in Kingsport, Tennessee as a pipefitter. He then attended the University of South Carolina where he majored in Biology. Dr. Hunt was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity where he was nominated for the National Balfour Undergraduate of the Year award. He was also an inductee of the Blue Key and Kappa Sigma Kappa Honor service societies. In addition, Dr. Hunt worked as a Senate Page at the State House, and an award winning Salesman for Wearever Pots and Pans. He was elected USC senior class President, and Cadet Colonel of the Arnold Air Society. Dr. Hunt finished with honors at the University of South Carolina in 1963 and then attended the Medical College of Virginia, where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree with honors in 1967. During the summers he worked as a driver for Overnight Trucking as well as a lab technician for Phillip Morris. Dr. Hunt was elected to the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. He received his specialty certificate in Orthodontics from the MCV Graduate Orthodontic Residency and moved to Greenville, SC where he opened his orthodontic practice on April 1, 1969.
Dr. Hunt Sr. practiced orthodontics for 41 years where he served thousands of patients from all over the South. He held active memberships in the American Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Southern Association of Orthodontists, South Carolina Association of Orthodontists, South Carolina Dental Association, Piedmont Dental Society, and the Greenville County Dental Society.
Dr. Hunt's time outside of orthodontics included an active love of golf and vintage car restoration where his beautiful 1960's Ford Mustangs and 1939 & 1940's Ford Roadster and Coupes graced the roads. He enjoyed breakfast and lunch with close friends, Saturday mornings working with his car guys, and supporting The Boys Home of The South.
Dr. Hunt lived his life with integrity and character. His words, though few, were his bond. He had great intellect and married it with great common sense. He was the ultimate complex simple-man. He was married to Sue, the love of his life for 47 years. Dr. Hunt Sr. is dearly missed and loved by all that were fortunate enough to know him.
